Start with the controls
Check the operating mode, temperature setting and remote batteries. Close doors and windows when cooling and keep accessible air outlets unobstructed.
Clean only user-removable filters
Follow your exact model’s manual. Switch off and isolate power as instructed before handling a user-removable filter. Clean it only by the approved method, let a washable filter dry fully, then refit it. Avoid opening electrical covers or spraying internal parts.
Look, without reaching into the unit
From a safe position, note visible water, ice, a displayed error or unusual noise. Do not climb onto ledges or access an outdoor unit at height. Share your observations when calling.
Stop and call a professional when needed
- Smoke, a burning smell or damaged wiring
- A breaker that trips repeatedly
- Water near electrical components
- Loud grinding, a stopped fan or recurring icing
- Any work involving refrigerant, capacitors or circuit boards
Do not attempt these repairs yourself
Gas charging, refrigerant leak repair, electrical testing, pressure washing inside the unit and capacitor or PCB replacement need suitable training and equipment. Do not bypass safety controls.
For model-specific guidance, use the manual supplied with your AC. Reference: LG’s pre-summer maintenance guidance. Instructions differ by model.
